Aligning with our Spirit and the Word of God

   December 23

believe that we are a three-part being consisting of spirit, soul, and body. This hierarchy places the spirit at the forefront, followed by the soul, and finally, the body, as stated in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. It is crucial to emphasize that the spirit leads the way, not the soul or the body.

As we embark on the journey of transformation, as outlined in the Bible, we are instructed in Romans 12:2 not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by renewing our minds. This renewal occurs when we speak the Word of God, fostering faith and belief, alongside the use of our prayer language, which is the language of the spirit.

The written Word of God, when spoken, connects us with the spirit of God. In fact, Jesus himself declared, "My words are spirit and they are life" (John 6:63). Therefore, if we desire to walk in the spirit, we must begin by audibly speaking God's words and engaging in prayer using our spiritual language. Jude 20 says that as we use our prayer language our faith is built up, and Romans 8:26-28 explains that when we don’t know how to pray, the spirit intercedes for us through groanings.

Scripture also supports the notion that our faith grows as we speak scripture. Romans 10:17 teaches us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and believing in our hearts leads us to speak with our mouth. This is the way of the spirit, a path paved with faith and the Word of God. I believe that the Word of God, referred to as "a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" in Psalm 119:105, was given to us as a guiding light. When we speak it, we align ourselves with God's perspective and His divine truth begins to show us the way to go. Regardless of the circumstances we face in the physical world or the emotions we experience, we must defer to the Word of God.

In moments of illness or affliction, our calling is to declare healing rather than yielding to the immediate physical sensations or the perceptions of our soul. God has bestowed upon us the gift of His Word, which serves as a divine source of healing for all our infirmities, as described in Exodus 15:26. By aligning ourselves with the spirit, which remains untainted by sin, we can access this powerful healing grace. This choice to speak life into situations, irrespective of their immediate appearance, reflects our decision to follow God's path of restoration and vitality.

Our spirit, unlike our soul or body, remains untouched by sin and is in constant communion with the Holy Spirit of God. We can access this spiritual realm by speaking the Word of God and using our prayer language. In Hebrews 4:2, we learn that the children of God in the Old Testament failed to enter the Promised Land because they did not mix the Word of God with faith. Instead, they voiced their doubts and complaints, longing to return to their past. Little did they know that God had a better future for them in the Promised Land and they could have arrived in this place if they would have only spoken according to God’s Word.

In heaven, all is already accomplished, and we can tap into these heavenly truths by speaking them in faith. By speaking God's Word, we undergo a transformation, aligning ourselves with the sinless spirit, which reigns alongside Christ in the courts of heaven. For instance, to attain healing, we must submit ourselves to the spirit by using the Word of God. This submission involves speaking, meditating, reading, studying, and believing in the Word of God. Additionally, speaking in tongues or the prayer language connects us to the spirit realm, making us more than conquerors as stated in Romans 8:37 enabling us to defeat the enemy and receive healing.

Miracle signs and wonders are manifestations that confirm the Word of God. Therefore, speaking the written Word of God and using our prayer language are pathways to walking in the Spirit and experiencing the extraordinary. This aligns with the example of Mary, who chose to engage with the Word of God, represented by Jesus Christ, while Martha busied herself with worldly tasks, as depicted in Luke 10:38-42. The Word of God (Jesus) brought forth a resurrection: confirming that He was the resurrection and the life by bring Lazarus back from the grave.

Jesus emphasized that engaging with the Word of God is the greater pursuit. As we do so, our path becomes illuminated, for the Word of God is a light unto our journey (Psalm 119:105) as already stated. Jesus himself is the Word of God, the life of the world, the truth, and the way to the Father, who created all things through His Word. So let us start imitating God since we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27) and speak the Word of God to create a flourishing path for our lives.

Our role as beings made in God's image is to partake in His divine plan, and we do this by humbling ourselves under the spirit's guidance. Even when we don't fully comprehend how to do so, the Word of God provides us with guidance. We are not to walk by sight but by the Word of God (2 Corinthians 5:7). By speaking the things of God, we choose life over death, just as God presents us with the choice of life and death (Deuteronomy 30:19). As we speak life, whether through the scriptures or the prayer language, we infuse life into situations that seem dire and lifeless.

In conclusion, our three-part being – spirit, soul, and body – finds its true alignment and purpose when we prioritize the spirit and speak the Word of God. This transformation not only fosters faith and belief but also enables us to access the heavenly realm and experience the miraculous. As we follow the example of Mary and engage with the Word of God, our path becomes illuminated, and we partake in God's divine plan for our lives, choosing life over death through our words (known and unknown).
