In my current study of the book of James, specifically in James 5, I've come across a significant theme. One of the things I'm learning is the distinction between two types of faith: vertical and horizontal. The vertical faith pertains to our relationship with God, the belief in Him. On the other hand, the horizontal faith involves our actions towards fellow human beings. It's about doing something for others, like praying for a sick brother or providing assistance when someone is in need. This concept of faith is reinforced throughout the Bible (Hebrews 11:6).

James 5 also delves into the idea that speaking plays a crucial role in how the world responds to us. We see this principle in the actions of Jesus, who spoke to various situations and saw transformations occur (Mark 11:23). However, there is a specific procedure involved in harnessing this power. It begins with entering into the throne room of grace, taking our seat in heavenly places with Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). From this position of authority and alignment with God's purposes, we speak truth into existence. This aligns with what Scripture tells us.

In the Book of James, we find that Elijah achieved remarkable results through prayer. He prayed that it would not rain for three and a half years, and it did not. His prayers held authority because they were made from a position of alignment with heaven's purposes (James 5:17-18). This alignment taps into the compassionate and merciful aspects of God's character. Additionally, 1 John speaks of another purpose of God – to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). When we pray from a position of authority, we engage in God's divine mission.

Understanding the position, authority, and alignment is essential. When we grasp how these elements work together, we can effectively utilize them. The story of Elijah illustrates this beautifully. He humbly bowed down and prayed up to heaven where God, and heaven responded with rain, causing the earth to bear its fruit. This story emphasizes the importance of having the right position, authority, and understanding when we speak into the earth.

The core principle here is that the earth responds to our words when they are aligned with heaven’s purposes. This mirrors how God created the world through His spoken word (Genesis 1). By speaking from a heaven position (humbling ourselves and viewing ourselves as though we were there with God as we pray - scripture says we are seated in heavenly places) or praying into heaven, we can tap into this creative power. Jesus demonstrated this when He multiplied bread by raising it up to heaven and speaking into it. Heaven released abundance, and the earth bore fruit. This illustrates the principle that heaven precedes earth when we pray.

To further emphasize this point, when we speak from our heavenly position, we don't need to exert control over the world like those who do not know God. Instead, when we seek God's kingdom first, all other things fall into place (Matthew 6:33). This is a fundamental truth that allows us to rest in God and have faith in His promises. As our faith grows, we begin to perform the works of God, just as Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead.

As our faith matures, we experience an increase in miracles, signs, and wonders. Even as we patiently wait and believe for healing, we can take practical steps such as applying ointments or seeking medical help. The more we align with God and His glory, the more we tap into His supernatural power. This deepens our connection with Him and opens doors to greater acceleration and divine interventions.

In conclusion, James 5 and various scriptures reveal the profound connection between faith, authority, and speaking into the earth from a heavenly position. Our faith is not limited to belief alone; it extends to our actions and our ability to speak into existence what aligns with God's purposes. From the position of heavenly authority, we can see the world respond to our words, just as it did in the times of Elijah and Jesus. This understanding empowers us to trust in God's promises, work His miracles, and bring about transformation in our lives and the lives of others.
