Faith, Doubt, and the Power of God's Word: A Journey through Scripture (revisited)

   January 8

In James 1:6-8, we find a powerful scripture that delves into the concepts of faith and doubt. It paints a vivid picture of how doubt can render a person unstable, like a wave of the sea, preventing them from receiving anything from the Lord due to their double-mindedness (James 1:6-8). On the contrary, the same passage highlights the incredible potential of faith, as it produces steadfastness and leads to completeness and perfection, leaving nothing lacking (James 1:2-4).

This scripture emphasizes the importance of standing on and staying in the word of God, regardless of life's circumstances. Jeremiah 1:12 reminds us that God watches over His word to perform it. When we meditate on His word and speak it back to Him, He takes notice and acts on our faith. In Jeremiah's encounter (Jeremiah 1:11-12), God asked, "What do you see?" Jeremiah responded by describing an almond branch, and God affirmed that He watched over His word to perform it. Interestingly, the Hebrew words for "almond" and "watch" are the same, highlighting God's vigilance over His promises. Similarly, God is continually looking for faith in us, even if it's as small as a mustard seed, just as Peter's little faith allowed Jesus to rescue him while walking on water (Matthew 14:29-31).

The scripture in James can be seen as a progression, ranging from a state of lacking everything to receiving nothing. It reflects the physical realm in which we often dwell. However, we must transcend this realm and tap into the core of everything—the word of God, from which all creation originates. As we immerse ourselves in God's word, we generate faith, which in turn produces steadfastness, patience, and strength. The nothing of this world is replaced by the everything of God, turning the negative aspects of life into opportunities for growth. In "Visual Intelligence," the concept of "prominent negative" is illustrated, where Sherlock Holmes operates by focusing on what is missing but crucial to solving a case. Similarly, the word of God is the key to understanding and addressing every aspect of life, in this case what is missing. For instance, the scripture "by His stripes we were healed" (Isaiah 53:5) serves as the clue to healing, health, wellness, and prosperity. When we declare God's word, He watches over it and brings it to fruition because He is a faithful God (Isaiah 55:11), and what is missing in our life is found in His Word.

We are created in God's image (Genesis 1:27), and as we become more like Him, we embody His word. Just as Jesus became the living word of God in the flesh (John 1:14), we can align ourselves with His word and see transformation in our lives. By doing so, we manifest the true image of God and bring His will into reality. Just as stem cells differentiate and create something good after their own kind for healing purposes, we have the power to speak God's word like a stem cell, and see it manifest according to His purpose. Even when facing giants like cancer, we can use the word of God as David used his stones to defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17:49-50). The word of God, spoken in faith, has the power to overcome any obstacle, no matter how imposing it may seem.

James 1:6-8 provides further insight into the contrast between doubt and righteousness. While doubt is compared to a wave of the sea, righteousness allows us to walk on the waves of doubt, overpowering the the waves through the word of God. Jesus, the Prince of Peace and the embodiment of righteousness, spoke peace to the storm (Mark 4:39) and walked on water (Matthew 14:25-27), demonstrating the authority of peace and righteousness. In conclusion, the scripture in James 1 teaches us that faith, doubt, and God's word are intricately connected. By immersing ourselves in God's word, generating faith, and declaring His promises, we can transform our lives and overcome any obstacle. Just as God watches over His word to perform it, He watches over us as we align ourselves with His word and walk in faith, allowing us to conquer the waves of doubt and receive His abundant blessings.
