In Ephesians we find a profound scripture that speaks to the essence of our spiritual identity. It states that we are "seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:6). This scripture carries a deeper meaning, one that encompasses the intricate nature of our being as a three-part entity: spirit, soul, and body. The focus here is on the soul, the part of us endowed with a will and the capacity to choose.

Our soul possesses the remarkable ability to either align with the desires of our physical body, our emotional state, and the worldly pursuits or to attune itself to the spiritual realm where our spirit resides. It is crucial to recognize that our spirit is firmly seated in heaven at the right hand of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:6). This understanding serves as a key to living a victorious life in Christ. Our mandate is to walk in the Spirit, allowing us to overcome the lusts and temptations of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). The New Testament authors emphasized this concept, highlighting the significance of walking in the Spirit as central to our Christian walk. A pivotal aspect of this journey is the submission of our soul to the sinless nature of our spirit. Our spirit, untouched by sin, represents our connection to the divine. Thus, we are called to yield to the spiritual realm rather than being consumed by worldly distractions.

The story of Mary and Martha illustrates this truth vividly. Martha was engrossed in the busyness of life, frustrated with Mary's apparent idleness. Yet, Jesus commended Mary, declaring that she had chosen the greater part (Luke 10:38-42). Mary, in her quiet devotion to Jesus, was creating an atmosphere of faith and agreement on earth, aligning herself with heaven's perspective. As Jesus stated, "I am the resurrection and the life," Mary's actions were, I believe, making it possible for the resurrection power to manifest (John 11:25-26). This story exemplifies the importance of drawing near to God and maintaining an atmosphere of belief, leading to divine intervention. Where two or more are in agreement, Jesus is present, ready to work miracles (Matthew 18:19-20). The parallels extend to John, the beloved apostle, who occupied a place of prominence at the right hand of Jesus during the Last Supper. Just as Mary had chosen the greater part, John, through his proximity to Jesus, experienced profound revelations of the future, a living experience of resurrection, and an intimate connection with the Spirit.

In our own lives, as we seek to emulate Mary and John, we must engage in practices that draw us closer to the Spirit. Worship, praise, thanksgiving, scriptural study, meditation, and the use of our prayer language all contribute to our spiritual growth. These disciplines lead us to the secret place where we realize our identity as more than conquerors, seated in heavenly places next to Jesus—our position of authority. In this place of authority, we witness the manifestation of healings, miracles, signs, wonders, and the greater moves of God in our lives. Our true essence lies in our Spirit man, and it is our soul's responsibility to align with it through these disciplines. As we embrace these practices, they grant us the ability to hear, see, and receive divine guidance and wisdom. Wisdom, as the Bible declares, is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7). Thus, we must choose to position ourselves in the heavenly realms next to Christ, where we can rule and reign on earth.

In conclusion, the scripture in Ephesians 2:6 reveals our divine inheritance as believers. By recognizing our position seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, we empower our soul to align with the Spirit, enabling us to live out our purpose as ambassadors of God's kingdom. It is in this position, next to Christ, that we discover the abundant life He has prepared for us.
