Creation and Restoration: Embracing God's Pattern of Order from Chaos

   January 14

In the whirlwind of life's complexities and uncertainties, have you ever sensed a recurring pattern, like a cosmic dance that underlies all existence? Let’s look at a profound pattern—one that echoes the very heartbeat of creation and restoration, resonating throughout the pages of Scripture. This is a pattern that reveals our capacity, as beings created in the image of God, to partake in the divine act of bringing order from chaos.

The Divine Pattern in Genesis (Genesis 1:1-3)

In the initial verses of Genesis, we encounter a world shrouded in chaos, a void devoid of structure. Yet, the Holy Spirit hovers over this formless expanse, orchestrating its transformation from disarray into organized brilliance. Here, the Word of God, the divine utterance, speaks, "Let there be light," and in that moment, order begins to emerge. Waters recede, land surfaces, celestial bodies adorn the skies, and life teems upon the earth.

Our Divine Image (Genesis 1:27)

The profound message in this creation narrative is that humans, created in the image of God, possess the potential to emulate this divine pattern. God, after laboring for six days, rested on the seventh—a rest that transcends mere physical reprieve, delving into the realm of prayer and communion with God. In Isaiah 28:11 and 1 Corinthians 14:4, the prayer language is referred to as a means of entering into God's rest and refreshment. This concept resonates with Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28 to find rest in Him.

The Holy Trinity in Harmony (John 1:1, Colossians 1:17)

The connection becomes clear—just as the Holy Spirit hovered over the waters at creation, preparing for the Word of God, which is Jesus Christ (John 1:1), to bring order, we too can tap into this pattern through the Holy Spirit. It is this divine blueprint that holds the universe together, with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in harmonious synergy.

Restoring the Pattern (Romans 5:8, Acts 2:38, Romans 8:26)

Our role, as beings made in God's image, is to apply this pattern to the chaos surrounding us. Much of this disorder stems from sin and rebellion, initiated by fallen angels and perpetuated by humans whose authority was usurped by the devil. This rebellion unleashed death, destruction, and chaos upon the world. However, God's redemptive plan took form through Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross (Romans 5:8). By accepting Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38), enabling us to engage in the pattern of creation and restoration.

Practical Application

In this pattern, we find the solution to the chaos, sickness, disease, and poverty plaguing our world. Our prayer language, inspired by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26), mirrors His presence over the formless void of our lives. As we meditate on God's Word and declare it, the universe responds, aligning itself with the Word of God, even in the face of adversity. Everything, both good and bad, is held together by God's Word (Colossians 1:17), making transformation possible.

To overcome trials, tribulations, sickness, disease, and poverty, we must implement God's pattern. Like the Holy Spirit hovering over the face of the deep (Genesis 1:2), our prayer language moves over the turbulent waters of life. We meditate on God's Word, cultivate faith, and then speak God's Word into our situations. In doing so, we usher in light, order, and transformation. Just as God proclaimed His creation "good," we, too, shift our focus from the negative to the positive, allowing the Holy Spirit's presence to transform chaos into order.

In conclusion, God has graciously provided us with a timeless pattern—a divine blueprint of creation and restoration. We are made in His image and have the capacity to create order out of chaos by following this pattern. Jesus' sacrifice and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit have restored our ability to apply this divine model to our lives. In the face of tribulations and chaos, we need not despair, for we can embrace God's pattern, use our prayer language, and speak light into our world, ushering in transformation, just as He did at the dawn of creation.
