Moving Mountains: Harnessing the Power of Faith and the Word
July 12
In the teachings of Jesus, we find a profound principle about faith: we can move mountains by speaking to them with belief and without doubt. This idea isn't just metaphorical; it's a literal invitation to engage deeply with the spiritual tools we've been given—faith, the Word, and the Holy Spirit.
The journey of faith begins with belief. Belief itself is nurtured not just through exposure to the Word, but through an intimate connection with the Spirit. As Zechariah 4:6 reminds us, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the Lord. This scripture highlights that supernatural achievements are accomplished not through human strength, but through divine spirit.
The New Testament further illuminates this concept in 2 Corinthians 4, which introduces the 'spirit of faith.' This spirit empowers us to believe and then to declare that belief. As our belief strengthens, like a fire being stoked, it finds expression in our words. This dynamic combination of believing and speaking forms the core of spiritual manifestation.
However, many believers struggle, like the Israelites who couldn't enter the Promised Land, because they failed to combine the Word with faith. How, then, can we effectively mix the Word with faith? The key lies in our prayer language, which activates our belief. By stirring up our most holy faith through speaking in tongues, we prepare ourselves to apply these principles in every aspect of life.
Using spiritual language is a choice, much like deciding to speak in tongues. It's an active, deliberate decision to engage both the Word and the Spirit. When faced with adversity, such as physical pain, the scriptural declaration "by His stripes, we are healed" pairs with the energizing force of the Spirit to bring about healing and order. This is mirrored in the act of creation, where the Spirit of God hovered over the waters before God spoke light into existence.
This synergy of the Word and the Spirit is crucial. Isaiah 28:10 teaches us about learning "line upon line, precept upon precept," which refers to the gradual and layered understanding of the Word. However, it is the muttering—the whispered affirmations of the Spirit—that brings rest and fulfillment, as elaborated in the book of Hebrews.
In practical terms, this spiritual mechanism works in our daily challenges. When Jesus fed the multitudes, He first instructed His disciples to organize the crowd. This act of creating order is a principle that applies universally. As we align our environments with the Word, God elevates our efforts, multiplying them beyond natural expectations.
For instance, if you suffer from pain, the biblical and spiritual approach involves commanding alignment with God’s Word, which holds all creation together. By declaring healing and order, you bring the situation into alignment with God's intention, as seen in the proclamation "by His stripes, you are healed."
Thus, as believers, we stand as the focal point where heaven meets earth. Wherever we are, we establish God’s throne room, making us conduits for divine authority. When two or more gather in His name, His presence is magnified, and the miraculous becomes possible.
In conclusion, the scriptural mandate to call things that are not as though they were, as stated in Romans 4:17, invites us into a transformative partnership with God. As we harness the combined power of the Word and the Spirit, we not only address the present but also tap into the eternal, manifesting God's perfect will on earth.
