Embracing Our Three-Part Being: Spirit, Soul, and Body
May 25
As Christians, we are a three-part being: spirit, soul, and body. This hierarchy places the spirit first, followed by the soul, and lastly the body. This order reflects our journey of transformation as described in the Bible: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Transformation begins with our spirit, influencing our soul and body.
Speaking the Word of God is crucial in this transformation. As we verbalize the scriptures, we grow in faith and belief. Jesus emphasized the power of His words: "The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life" (John 6:63). Speaking God's Word aloud and utilizing our prayer language, or spirit language, connects us directly to the Spirit of God.
Jude highlights the importance of prayer language: "But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 1:20). Additionally, Romans teaches that faith comes from hearing the Word of God: "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ" (Romans 10:17).
The Word of God serves as our guide, allowing us to speak in alignment with His will. Regardless of our physical circumstances, we declare God's promises. For example, in times of sickness, we proclaim healing: "He sent out his word and healed them" (Psalm 107:20). We recognize God as Jehovah Rapha, our healer, and speak His truth into our lives, overriding our physical senses and feelings.
Our spirit, being sinless and connected to heaven, is our access point to divine truth. This part of us is already seated in the heavenly realms with Christ (Ephesians 2:6). By speaking the written Word of God and using our prayer language, we align our soul and body with our spirit, enabling us to receive heavenly wisdom and blessings.
The Israelites in the Old Testament failed to enter the Promised Land because they did not mix God's Word with faith (Hebrews 4:2). Instead of speaking faith, they focused on their immediate circumstances, missing God's greater plan. This serves as a reminder for us to speak God's promises, mixing them with faith to bring them into reality.
Speaking the Word of God transforms us, builds our faith, and aligns us with the spirit. This alignment allows us to overcome challenges, gain wisdom, and experience miracles. As we engage with the Word of God, we follow the example of Mary, who chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His words (Luke 10:39-42). Unlike Martha, who was distracted by worldly tasks, Mary prioritized spiritual engagement, which Jesus affirmed as the better choice.
The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the light of the world (John 8:12). By deferring to our spirit and speaking God's Word, we navigate life with divine guidance and wisdom.
In conclusion, embracing our three-part being and prioritizing our spirit aligns us with God's will. By speaking the Word of God and using our prayer language, we transform our minds, build our faith, and experience the fullness of life promised by God. Let us choose life by speaking life, as instructed in Deuteronomy 30:19, and bring divine transformation into every aspect of our existence.
