Genesis 1: Surfer Dude Style
November 12
In the gnarly beginning, the Big Kahuna, God, was crafting the heavens and the earth. The earth was all formless, just like an unridden wave, and darkness was crashing over the deep sea. And the Spirit of God? He was hovering over the waters, like waiting for the perfect wave.
Then God’s like, “Let there be some light, dudes!” And whoa, there was light. God saw the light, and it was totally righteous. He separated the light from the darkness, calling the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” And that was the first epic day, morning and evening, rolling by.
God said, “Let’s make a space to separate the waters, like a reef between waves.” So He made the sky to separate water under the sky from the water above. And that’s how the sky rolled in.
Next, God’s like, “Let’s gather all the water under the sky to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. He named the dry ground “Land” and the gathered waters “Seas.” And God saw that it was good, like a perfect beach.
Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees with fruit.” The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seeds and trees with fruit. And God saw this was totally tubular.
Then God made two great lights—the bigger light to rule the day and the smaller light to rule the night, along with the stars. He set them in the sky to give light to the earth, to rule over the day and the night. And God saw it was killer, indeed.
God then said, “Let the water be filled with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the sky.” So God created sea creatures and every living thing that moves in the water, and every winged bird. And He saw that it was awesome.
Next, God’s like, “Let’s make creatures to roam the earth!” So the land produced creatures of every kind. And God saw it was all good, like a day with perfect waves.
Finally, God said, “Let’s make mankind in our image, to rule over the fish, birds, and every creature.” So God created mankind in His own image. He blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and take care of it.”
God looked at everything He had made, and it was supremely excellent. And that was the sixth day, with the evening and the morning, just like the others.
