The Soul: The Vital Connector in Spiritual Journey
November 19
The soul, an essential aspect of our existence, serves as a pivotal connector between the spirit and the body. It is the soul that guides our decisions, influencing the direction of our lives and the choices we make. This powerful element within us has the capacity to either open itself to the spirit or remain entrenched in the physical realm. In this duality, the soul presents us with a critical choice.
The scriptures remind us that life and death are set before us, urging us to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19). This choice is echoed in the teachings of Jesus, who declared that His words are both spirit and life (John 6:63). Therefore, aligning ourselves with the teachings of Jesus, who is described as "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), is paramount in choosing a life imbued with spirit.
Our journey on earth is characterized by this fundamental choice: to engage with the spiritual realm or to remain detached from it. Revelation 3:20 metaphorically illustrates this decision, depicting Jesus as standing at the heart’s door, knocking. It is a choice of the soul to open this door and invite Him in, a decision that dictates whether we align ourselves with heaven or hell, symbolically representing life and death, respectively.
The biblical narrative of the fall of Lucifer, who becomes Satan, further underscores the consequences of rebellion against God. Lucifer's expulsion from heaven is recounted as a result of his desire to usurp God's position (Isaiah 14:12-15; Luke 10:18). This narrative extends to the earthly temptation of Adam and Eve, where the deceit of Satan leads to the original sin, marking the beginning of human mortality and the loss of divine authority (Genesis 3).
This pivotal moment in the Garden of Eden signifies a transition from a spiritual existence to a life in the physical realm, characterized by separation from God and the eventual reality of death. However, through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, a path is reopened to the spiritual realm – an invitation to restore what was lost through Adam and Eve’s disobedience.
This dichotomy, established by the fall, positions humanity at a crossroads. We can either continue under the influence of the malevolent entity once known as Lucifer, or we can embrace the path laid out by God, the Creator. The scripture instructs us to choose the life found in Jesus Christ, the only conduit to reconciliation with God.
This choice is not merely an intellectual assent but involves engaging with the Word of God. As Romans 10:17 suggests, faith comes from hearing the message of Christ. This faith enables us to perceive beyond the physical, seeing through spiritual eyes. By meditating on and speaking God's Word, we nurture our faith, which acts as a "title deed" to the spiritual promises of God.
In accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we initiate a profound transformation. This acceptance results in the creation of a new spirit within us, enabling a deep and continuous fellowship with God. This renewed spirit is in communion with the Holy Spirit, facilitating our walk in the spiritual realm rather than being bound by the physical.
In conclusion, the journey of the soul is one of choosing between the transient physical world and the eternal spiritual realm. It involves recognizing and responding to the knock of Jesus on the door of our hearts, embracing His teachings, and nurturing a relationship with God through faith and immersion in the Word. This path leads not only to an enriched spiritual life but also to the ultimate reunion with God, transcending the limitations of our earthly existence.
