Genesis 11:1-9
In a time, oh so long, long ago,
All the world spoke one word, don't you know.
Eastward bound, folks found a plain, Shinar's ground,
And they said, "Let's not wander around!"
"Bricks we'll bake, and with tar we'll bind,"
To build a city and tower, high in the sky they pined.
"Up, up, up, to the heavens we'll go,
To make our name known, high and low!"
But the Lord came down to see their city and tower,
And said, "As one, they have such power.
Let's mix their words, so they'll not understand,
And scatter them wide, across the land."
So the Lord did just that, and they stopped the build,
Scattered them wide, as He had willed.
Babel it's named, for there God did confuse,
Their one language, into many a tongue to use.
