The Power of Worship: Drawing Strength from the Heart of Worship
October 28
In the heart of worship is where we find strength (Psalm 16:11). It's in this sacred space that we connect with God, the source of our unwavering strength and the sustainer of our souls. Worship is more than a mere ritual or religious practice; it's a deeply personal and transformative experience. In this reflection, we delve into the essence of worship, exploring its significance, the humility it fosters, and the profound connection it creates with the triune God—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Through this exploration, we'll discover how worship is the key to unlocking divine power and an unshakable faith.
Worship begins with the acknowledgment that we receive the Lord Jesus Christ into our lives (John 1:12). This reception is not a mere formality but a pivotal step in our journey of faith. Just as the way we receive Jesus Christ matters, so too does the way we walk with Him. The essence of receiving Him lies in approaching Him with humility (Philippians 2:9-11). We must recognize who we were before His redemptive work in our lives—sinful creatures, lost in the darkness of our transgressions. It's only when we grasp that Jesus willingly endured the cross and triumphed over death to purify us from our sinful nature when we ask Him into our life that we can approach Him humbly. He bore our sins and, through the Holy Spirit, bestowed upon us a new, godly nature (2 Corinthians 5:17). This realization keeps us grounded in humility before God.
The humility cultivated through the acknowledgment of our sins and that Jesus has removed our sinful nature allows us to continually approach God with gratitude and praise (Psalm 95:2). We marvel at the incredible transformation He has wrought in our lives, gifting us with a new heart where He now resides (Ezekiel 36:26). The heart of worship is the acknowledgment of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit working in unison within us. This divine harmony is what empowers us to approach the throne of God with unwavering confidence (Hebrews 10:19-20). When Jesus rose from the dead, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, creating a new spirit within us, one that is perfect and enables us to enter the Holy of Holies that resides in our most inner man — the very heart of our worship. In this most sacred place, we encounter the triune God.
The Holy of Holies, as described in the Scriptures, is the innermost sanctuary of the tabernacle, where God's presence dwelt (Exodus 26:33). In our context, it symbolizes God residing in our hearts—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Worship is an outpouring of love and gratitude to God because He loved us first (1 John 4:19). He has adopted us as His sons and daughters, granting us the privilege of intimate fellowship with Him (Galatians 4:7). It's in this sacred place, the heart of worship, where we find God offering all that we need in our physical existence. He provides healing, provisions, protection, guidance, wisdom, and imparts knowledge and understanding.
The beauty of worship lies in its accessibility. We can approach the presence of God at any time, in any place (Matthew 18:20). This divine connection transcends physical limitations, as we have a secret place—a sanctuary within our hearts (Psalm 91:1). This sacred space is more profound and powerful than any other place in this world or beyond. It is here that we can commune with the Most High God, the Creator of the universe. The heart of worship is the gateway to a deeper, more profound relationship with God. It is in this sacred space that we draw strength, find solace, and bask in the unending love and grace of God.
