Positioning Ourselves to Receive from the Holy Spirit (Part 1)
October 30
In the Bible, 1 John 2:27 emphasizes the idea that we don't need any human teacher, as the Holy Spirit is our ultimate instructor. This scripture encourages us to consider the profound meaning behind this concept. What does it truly signify? It leads us to the idea that as we draw closer to God, He reciprocates by drawing closer to us (James 4:8). But what does this divine connection entail?
It means that, in my understanding, as we meditate on the scriptures, study them, memorize them, and speak them, the Bible becomes a wellspring of revelation. However, it's not limited to mere study; it involves the utilization of our prayer language (1 Corinthians 14:14). I firmly believe that our prayer language serves as a bridge to the Holy Spirit, positioning us to receive His guidance.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge that we need to make a conscious choice to engage in this process. God provides us with the means, but we must choose to participate actively. It's an integral part of our walk of faith, transcending the physical realm and delving into the realm of the spirit. In the physical world, we are incessantly bombarded with distractions – the cacophony of daily life, emotional turbulence, financial concerns, and more. To hear the voice of God, we must quiet ourselves and turn inward, as this is where God, for those who have received Him, resides – in the innermost man, the Holy of Holies (Ephesians 3:16-17).
In the Bible, Proverbs 20:27 informs us that the Spirit of the Lord is like a candle searching all the inward parts of a person. Thus, we must look within, deep into the place where our spirit, connected to God, resides. It's through this inward realization that we understand our true identity. Our genuine essence isn't rooted in the physical world but in the inner spiritual realm. As we come to this profound realization, we can better navigate the challenges of the physical world and overcome the obstacles that seek to harm us.
This process reinforces the initial point – we can be taught by the Holy Spirit, but we must put ourselves in a position to receive this divine instruction. Understanding the duality of our existence, both physical and spiritual, is paramount. The spiritual realm supersedes the physical, as it is the spiritual realm that holds the physical together, just as the Bible affirms that Jesus holds all things together through the Word of God (Colossians 1:17).
From this position of spiritual authority, which Ephesians 2:6 refers to as being "seated in heavenly places," we can access healing, resurrection of the dead, provision, protection, and miracles. However, we must actively engage in a relationship with God through practices such as reading the Bible, speaking the Word, meditation, prayer language, worship, praise, etc. These are the protocols that guide us as we enter into the presence of God.
The Bible emphasizes specific steps for this entry, highlighting the importance of praise and thanksgiving (Psalm 100:4). It's a protocol that helps us prepare for an encounter with God. Part of this preparation involves introspection, searching for any commonality with the devil and cleansing ourselves through the blood of the Lamb, which signifies seeking forgiveness and embracing the new nature provided through Jesus (1 John 1:7).
As we align ourselves with God's Word and His Spirit, we are reminded of our heavenly position. It's a position of authority from which we are intended to operate. This is not something automatic but a matter of choice. We are encouraged to choose life and to embrace the way, the truth, and the life, which is found in Jesus (John 14:6). By following these pursuits, we position ourselves to receive divine wisdom, enabling us to make informed decisions and shape our destiny proactively.
