Keeping Your Eyes on God's Promises September 7

In the Bible, there's a powerful lesson about keeping our focus on God's way of doing things. It's a lesson that holds the key to receiving miracles, such as supernatural healing, provision, and guidance. The story takes us back to the children of Israel, who were wandering in the desert and plagued by snake bites. God instructed Moses to construct a pole with a snake on it. As long as the people kept their eyes on the snake on the pole, they would be healed (Numbers 21:8).

This narrative illustrates the importance of maintaining our focus on God's promises. To do this, we must immerse ourselves in scriptures that pertain to our lives, such as healing (Isaiah 53:5), provision (Luke 6:38), and guidance (Proverbs 3:5-6). The Bible serves as our instruction manual for living according to God's will. The concept of focus is further exemplified by the story of Peter walking on water. As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he could walk on water, but when he shifted his focus to the turbulent water, he began to sink (Matthew 14:29-30). This choice to keep our eyes on God's promises is how we walk in the Spirit.

We find numerous promises in scripture, such as sowing and reaping (Galatians 6:7-8) and casting our bread upon the waters (Ecclesiastes 11:1), which relate to provision. Others, like meditating on the Word day and night (Psalm 1:2) and receiving healing through God's Word (Psalm 107:20), address healing. As we focus on these promises through meditation, declaration, prayer, and worship, we align ourselves with God's will. Regardless of our circumstances or feelings, we choose to remain contrary to the turbulence of the world. In the words of Jesus, "In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

Another crucial aspect is maintaining joy in the midst of tribulation. Jesus endured the cross because of the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:2). He understood that joy would follow the darkness, just as the light shines after night. This simple yet profound truth is a matter of our will. We must continually redirect our focus to God's promises and His Word. The assurance that God's Word will not return void but accomplish its purpose (Isaiah 55:11) remains steadfast, irrespective of external circumstances. Psalm 91 reaffirms that even in the midst of death and destruction, those who keep their eyes on Jesus find protection.

The story of Peter and an unnamed apostle in prison further demonstrates the power of praising and worshiping God in challenging situations. As they rejoiced and praised Him, an angel intervened and set them free (Acts 16:25-26). Time and again, we witness people being delivered from dire circumstances when they fix their gaze on Jesus Christ. So, let us be encouraged to believe in God's Word for healing, provision, guidance, and all our needs. This faith extends not only to ourselves but also to the people we love. As we keep our eyes on God's promises, we can trust in good things for ourselves and for those we cherish.
