The Power of the Word: Unlocking the Authority Within
September 18
In Luke 4, Jesus declared, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." (Luke 4:18-19)
After speaking these profound words, Jesus closed the book and announced, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." (Luke 4:21) Jesus possessed an intimate knowledge of the Bible. He not only read it but also spoke it, meditated on it, and found himself within its sacred verses. He boldly proclaimed that these words applied to him.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we too inherit the promises of these Scriptures. It becomes crucial for us to immerse ourselves in the Bible, meditate upon its teachings, and declare its truths. We must follow in Jesus's footsteps by seeking our own place within the pages of the Bible. By doing so, we access the divine authority bestowed upon us by God.
With this authority, we can heal the sick, cast out demons, speak in tongues, raise the dead, and perform the works of Jesus. We've been granted this authority, and it's incumbent upon us to exercise it. This underscores the paramount importance of reading and comprehending the Bible as a living, relevant guide for our lives. The Bible is the written form of the Word of God, which is none other than Jesus Himself, dwelling within us.
Faith is cultivated through hearing the Word of God, which necessitates speaking it. As Jude 20 states, we can also strengthen our faith through the prayer language. As we declare the Word of God and employ our prayer language, our faith grows, enabling us to carry out the works of Jesus during His time on Earth. This authority is available to us, yet without knowledge of it, we cannot access it.
The Bible warns us, "My people perish for lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6) Therefore, it is imperative to read, study, meditate upon the Word of God, and utilize the prayer language to develop the faith required to declare it and see manifestations. By doing so, we can demonstrate, as Jesus did, miraculous healings, restore sight to the blind, grant hearing to the deaf, unseal mute mouths, and even raise the dead. These extraordinary abilities should inspire us to eagerly open the Bible, read it, and study it with fervor.
