Confronting Leviathan: A Biblical Approach to Spiritual Warfare
September 24
In the Bible, Job 41:1 - 10 warns against touching Leviathan, a formidable entity. This scriptural admonition has been the subject of numerous teachings, emphasizing the need to refrain from rebuking or directly opposing Leviathan. It is believed that doing so may inadvertently bring harm to oneself, one's family, or even the church community.
Given this caution, a pressing question arises: how should one effectively deal with Leviathan? Some teachings suggest approaching Leviathan and similar demonic activities by envisioning oneself seated in heavenly places alongside Jesus, as Ephesians 2:6 suggests. This approach hints at a courtroom-like setting, wherein Leviathan becomes the accuser, as described in Revelation 12:10, and Jesus acts as the advocate, as seen in 1 John 2:1, while God the Father presides as the judge (Psalms 75:7).
In this heavenly courtroom, one employs the blood of Jesus, as mentioned in Revelation 12:11, and the Word of God as evidence, as illustrated in Hebrews 4:12. However, it is imperative to first repent of sins, as 1 John 1:9 instructs, ensuring that Leviathan and other malevolent forces do not have a foothold in one's soul. This cleansing process involves confessing sins, seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance to reveal hidden transgressions, as guided by 1 Corinthians 2:10, and invoking Jesus' cleansing power through His shed blood on the cross, as stated in 1 Peter 1:18-19.
Through this spiritual courtroom, any curses imposed by the devil or Leviathan are nullified. God the Father, through His divine authority, grants believers the power to decree that these malevolent forces have no authority over them and must desist from their malevolent actions, as found in Luke 10:19. To effectively engage in this spiritual warfare, one must focus on their position in Christ. The Bible reveals that believers are seated in heavenly places, as Ephesians 2:6 emphasizes, and can boldly approach the throne of grace with praise and thanksgiving, as Hebrews 4:16 encourages. It is from this heavenly perspective that one can bring the accuser, Leviathan, to court and, armed with the Word of God, confront and overcome it.
This approach is the pathway to victory, a triumphant resolution of the battle against Leviathan, the devil, and other demonic forces that assail believers' souls, bodies, finances, families, and surroundings. It is the kingdom way—a journey into the heavenly realms, a spiritual realm illuminated by divine insight and understanding, as depicted in Matthew 6:10. Developing the ability to see and hear in the spiritual realm is essential. This vision is nurtured through meditation on the Word of God, as Psalm 1:2-3 advises, praying in the spirit, as described in Ephesians 6:18, and declaring God's Word, as exemplified in Romans 10:17. These practices cultivate faith and belief, as highlighted in Romans 10:17, allowing the kingdom of God to establish dominion in believers' lives, displacing the territories previously held by the enemy, which includes fallen angels, Leviathan, serpents, demons, and wickedness.
In this spiritual battle, believers are not only conquerors but more than conquerors, as Romans 8:37 proclaims. They possess the knowledge, guided by the Holy Spirit and spiritual teachers, who unveil the hidden mysteries of the kingdom of God. These secrets are there to be explored, discovered, and wielded, empowering believers to prevail in their spiritual journey, as suggested in 1 Corinthians 2:10. It is a profoundly potent approach to spiritual warfare, offering a way to triumph and never perish due to a lack of knowledge, as Hosea 4:6 warns.
