Seated in Heavenly Places: Finding Fullness of Joy in the Godhead
February 6
The Bible beautifully reveals the profound truth that, in the presence of the Lord, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). As we delve into the Scriptures, we discover the intricate positioning within the Godhead that brings this joy into our lives.
In Psalm 16:8 (ESV), we learn that the Lord is seated at our right hand, and in Mark 16:19 (NIV), it is affirmed that Jesus ascended into heaven, taking His place at the right hand of God the Father. This arrangement places us right in the middle, with the Father on our left and Jesus on our right. This configuration signifies our special place in the divine order. What makes this divine positioning even more profound is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within us. The Holy Spirit resides in our hearts, enveloping us in His presence, ensuring that we are covered on all sides (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Ephesians 2:6 (NLT) reminds us that we are currently seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. This isn't a future promise; it's our present reality. Our faith in the Word of God confirms that we are in the very center of the Godhead, an awe-inspiring place to be. In this divine positioning, we discover strength and joy. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," as Philippians 4:13 (NIV) declares. The joy of the Lord becomes our strength, for in His presence, joy abounds (Nehemiah 8:10). Proverbs 17:22 (KJV) reminds us that "a merry heart doeth good like a medicine." Thus, our health and well-being are found in this sacred place, where we are seated in heavenly places, amidst the Creator, the Godhead, the three in one.
We see the world through the lens of the Bible, and it is a place of authority. Sickness, poverty, and infirmity are beneath us, for we have been given dominion over them (Genesis 1:26). We rejoice in the Lord always, as Paul advises in Philippians 4:4, for our position in the Godhead is one of authority, as originally intended for humanity in Genesis. The story of redemption unfolds through Jesus, the Word made flesh. He sacrificed His life on the cross, conquered death, and now sits at the right hand of the Father (Hebrews 12:2). Through our acceptance of Jesus, we find our place at His right hand, with the Holy Spirit sealing us (2 Corinthians 1:21-22). This divine arrangement brings us into the very presence of the Creator.
Our understanding of this truth allows us to bring heaven into every situation. Even in the midst of challenging circumstances, we can find joy because we are seated in heavenly places (Colossians 3:1). Negativity and adversity no longer have to have dominion over us, for we have an advocate in Christ (1 John 2:1) and we are seated next to him. As we recognize our position within the Godhead, we understand our role in judging spiritual forces and principalities (1 Corinthians 6:3). Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the negative spiritual realm (Ephesians 6:12). We engage in this spiritual warfare from our unique position, in the midst of the Godhead.
This heavenly position is where we can find peace for our souls (Philippians 4:7), where all our needs are met (Philippians 4:19), and we can fight for others to find this rightful place. It is a place open to all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (John 3:16). We stand in awe and gratitude for the fullness of joy that comes from being seated in heavenly places, right in the heart of the Godhead.
