Becoming Experts in the Things of God
June 7
As believers, we are called to put on Christ and become experts in the things of God. We can become experts by choosing to walk in the spirit that, in Christ, already knows all things because we have an unction from the Holy One (1 John 2:20). Understanding our identity as a three-part being—spirit, soul, and body—is crucial in this journey.
Our spirit, which is sinless and seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6), represents perfection. It is essential to walk in the spirit and engage with it. This engagement involves our soul, which must be renewed and transformed to align with God's plan, as stated in Romans 12:1-2: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
The transformation of the soul is a choice. Our spirit, given to us when we receive Christ, is ready, willing, and able to guide us. As new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), we possess a new nature, no longer bound by the sin nature inherited from Adam and Eve. Instead, we embody the sinless nature of Christ, though our soul continues to undergo transformation.
God presents us with a choice between life and death, urging us to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19). Jesus, the embodiment of life, and His sacrificial blood offer us this choice. By choosing the spirit and rejecting worldly entrapments like anxiety and sin, we align ourselves with God's will. Fixing our minds on Christ through the Word of God, worship, praise, thanksgiving, and prayer connects us to the spirit.
God has made the way for us through Jesus' death, resurrection, and the sending of the Holy Spirit. It is up to us to open our hearts and let Him in (Revelation 3:20). This process of choosing God daily is vital. Choosing not to follow God equates to choosing death, as life outside Christ leads to a negative end.
In Christ, we find eternal life, joy, love, and everything we need. It is a choice we must make continually. By aligning our thoughts and actions with Christ, we can confidently say, "Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). This truth empowers us to grow and become experts in the things of God.
God has already made us the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). He is our healer, provider, protector, and source of wisdom. As the omniscient, all-powerful, and ever-present God, He sees everything. Therefore, choosing Him is the only logical and beneficial decision.
